THE STANDARD

BS7799/ISO27001 is the code of practice for the management of information security. While compliance isn't a legal obligation, it benefits businesses and is accepted as a good 'handbook' for effective security policy.

BS7799/ISO27001 is a three-part standard, with Part I consisting of ten key guidelines for company security, Part II is a management standard with Part III containing risk assessment guidelines. BS7799/ISO27001 translates into the International Standard ISO 17799, but there isn't yet a Part II to the International code.
